Rebekah Marie Dresden was born in Los Angeles, California on September 18, 2015 to her mother, Lorelei Dresden, and her father, Hades, Lord of the Underworld. Though neither her mother nor Rebekah ever knew the true identity of her father. Bekah's childhood was one that was filled with love and adoration. Her mother was an actress at the local theater, doing shows nearly every day. Growing up watching her mother, Rebekah wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and act. Through her early childhood, it was always just the two of them. There never seemed to be a man that would enter her mother's life after her father, but Bekah was content with that. Her mother became the single most important person in her life just as she became her mother's.
Through her childhood, Bekah never really did well in her classes, always falling behind the rest of her class because she couldn't concentrate on the classes, claiming they were boring her. Her mother sent her to see a doctor about her problems and Rebekah was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. Despite this, she was always a bright, happy and well behaved child. She and her mother were inseparable, always spending their time together. Wither it was watching her mother rehearse for that night's show, a picnic in the countryside or a day at the local Six Flags. Whenever the topic of conversation turned to her father, her mother would simply smile and tell her the same thing she would always say.
“He was a man who came into my life to give me the greatest gift that I could ever receive. My darling, Rebekah.”
After her mother said that, Rebekah would always change the subject to something else. To her, life was absolutely perfect. Little did she know, her paradise would all come crashing down around her. Forever.
It was a warm winter morning in December when Rebekah, now ten years old, awoke to find her mother unconscious in the kitchen. She called the paramedics and they rushed her and her mother to the hospital. Three days and nights passed with Bekah remaining at her mother's side. It wasn't until the fourth day that the doctors has answers for the reason her mother's condition. The doctors told her that her mother had a brain tumor that was pressing against her brain and caused her fall unconscious. The biggest hit came when she was told that it was inoperable. Her mother was going to die. Bekah took the news hard, crying for two days straight until her mother started to come out of the coma. She was still weak, but at least she was awake.
Rebekah was so happy to see her mother awake and speaking with her again. Rebekah stayed by her mother's side for the next three days until her mother passed away in the afternoon. Rebekah was crushed at her mother's passing, unable to believe that her mother was truly gone forever and she was now an orphan. She was placed into the custody of Child Protective Service and sent to a halfway house with several other children. As the days passed, Rebekah started to build up a fascination with death and the macabre. She would read various medical and occult books. Her curiosity with the dark side of life starting to grow. Slowly, her entire demeanor seemed to change and shift into something different.
She was no longer the bright and happy child she once was. She was now solitary and quiet. Her bright clothes grew darker until they were as black as pitch. She kept herself confined mostly to her room, not having said a word to anyone since her mother's death. It was as if she retreated within herself trying to hide from the outside world. She spent the majority of her time studying the occult, particularly conducting seances and communicating with the dead. Anything that would give her the chance to speak with her mother again. She used an Ouija board quite often with little results, but she never gave up hope that one day it will work and she'll communicate with her mother.
During her research, she stumbled across a ritual for summoning a spirit to the world of the living. It was a very complex and time consuming ritual, but it required items that she had never heard of. She decided to see if she could gather the ingredients and perform the ritual. She continued to try to research and find the items required for the ritual, eventually the woman who took care of her, Janice, came in and said that there was a man named Alexander L'Anse who was interested in adopting her and she wanted Rebekah to meet with him. Reluctantly, Rebekah agreed with a simple nod of her head. A week later, she was alone in the living area with Janice and Mr. L'Anse. Both Janice and Alex tried to get Rebekah to open up and speak, but Bekah just kept to herself until Alex mentioned that he knew her father and had worked with him.
This immediately got Bekah's attention and she spoke for the first time to anyone since her mother had passed away, asking about her father and what he was like. Much to her dismay, she only got vague answers in return. After an hour, the meeting ended and much to her surprise, Alex said he'd adopt young Rebekah. Unknown to Rebekah or anyone else, Alex was her Satyr under the guise of a wealthy investor, so that he could keep an eye on her. Once she was at his home and settled in, Alex set about telling Rebekah everything about her father. She discovered that her father was Hades, the same one from the Greek mythology, and that she was a Demigod. She couldn't believe her ears and thought that he was nuts. That was until he showed her his true form. She stood in shock as he explained what he was and his purpose. After she was finished, she excused herself and locked herself in her room for two days, opening the door only to retrieve the food that had been placed in the hallway for her and to leave the dirty dishes.
When she finally reemerged, the news and information sinking in, she finally started to show some sign of the girl she use to be. For the next few years, he cared for her and taught her to use the gifts that her blood brought as well as assisting her in. He supported her in searching for a means of communicating with her mother, eventually stumbling upon a ritual to summon spirits to the world of the living. She showed it to Alex and he explained that it may be possible and that Demigods in the past have spoken to the dead. The ritual was complex and time consuming and some of the items necessary were extremely rare and could take some time to find. As they tracked down the items, Bekah continued to learn to control her abilities and explained to her what happened in the past when Demigods have spoken with the dead. She even managed to convince Alex into letting her get a tattoo of a symbol of protection.
“If my life is going to be constantly in danger, having protection on me at all time can't hurt.” She told him while trying to look as adorable as possible like any other girl her age would do in that situation. After several months of constant pestering, he agreed.
After several years of searching, Alex and Bekah gathered all the required items, making sure to collect multiples of each item for the future. She set about completing the ritual, performing it to the best of her abilities. As the ritual concluded and she meditated on her mother's spirit for a two days straight, her mother never came. After studying what she did, she discovered that something she did during the ritual was done incorrect and the ritual failed. She wanted to try again, but she discovered that the ritual had consumed all the items that they had collected. They'd have to start from the start again. Alex and Bekah set about to collect another batch of items for the ritual. As they searched for the items again, she continued to train and study under Alex's tutelage until her twelfth summer came. She and Alex returned back to the manor after Alex had fallen ill. He was bed ridden for several months, coming close to death before he finally started to regain his health and, within a year, was completely healthy.
She and Alex resumed her training and search for the item she requires to get her mother back, though she has still made little progress. She continued her normal routine for seven months before her life came crashing down once more. In the middle of the night in March, she was sound asleep in her room when she awoke to the sound of a struggle. She could hear Alex's voice along with a female's. The sound of breaking glass sent shivers down her spine as she rushed to check on Alex. In the living room, she saw Alex trying to fend off the attacks of a Harpy. At the sight of the creature, Bekah reacted on instinct and rushed the creature.
The Harpy reacted with an attack towards Rebekah. She tried to dodge the attack, but her reaction was too slow. With a hit of the Harpy, Bekah was sent flying into the nearby wall. She collapsed into a heap as the air was forced from her lungs. She gasped for air as she struggled to get to her feet as Alex tried to fend off the beast. As the air started to return to her, she could see the wounds Alex was receiving. As she managed to raise to her feet, the Harpy threw Alex at her. His body crashed into her, knocking the wind from her lungs, and soon the room around her proceeded into darkness.
When she awoke, she was in the infirmary of the camp. She was told that she had been unconscious for two days. She had been attacked by the Harpy and Alex managed to hold it off until another Satyr arrived and took her to the camp. Alex was killed in the attack. She was devastated at the news of the death of the only other parent that she had ever known other than her mother. Because of the attack and the death of Alex, her father had seen to it that she would remain at the camp for her safety and protection. She has only recently become well enough to leave her cabin and interact with the rest of the camp. She has not given up the quest to speak to her mother again and, recently, her chest of ingredients had been returned so she can continue to search for the rest of the items she needs.
